About Us

Our People

Our engineers, geoscientists, and technologists are dedicated to finding innovative yet practical solutions to our clients' technical problems. To that end, we provide ongoing in-house training and mentoring, and encourage participation in conferences, seminars and specialty courses. By creating an environment for growth and opportunity, we have successfully attracted and retained great people, who are the cornerstone of our success.

Our Approach

For each project, we assemble a team of people with the appropriate combination of training and experience for the assignment. A senior professional heads up the team, providing technical input and assuming overall responsibility for the project. We work closely with our clients through to project completion, and are always sensitive to their needs.

Our History

In 1957, Reginald Thurber started a small consulting engineering firm in Victoria, B.C., specializing in soil mechanics and foundation engineering. Within a few years, the company expanded to mainland B.C., and into Alberta. In 1991, Thurber added a Toronto office, and currently has nine offices and more than 200 employees Canada wide. Visit our History page for more details.

Environmental Impact Assessments

Environmental Impact AssessmentsConducting an Environmental Impact Assessment  (EIA) at the earliest possible stage of a new development is required to ensure that environmental concerns are explicitly addressed prior to major decisions being taken and commitments made.  The EIA process should ensure that the appropriate techniques and experts in the relevant disciplines are employed, and that the interrelationships of environmental, social and economical aspects are brought into play.

We have undertaken multi-disciplinary environmental impact assessments for a wide range of commercial, government and industrial projects. These have included linear corridor developments, mining, forestry, hydroelectric and petrochemical developments, as well as urban and park developments.

Our in-house expertise encompasses:

• environmental impact assessment (EIA)
• public consultation and participation in public hearings
• environmental risk assessment and due diligence
• EIA reviews, project management, budgeting, programming
